Mindy Gates, RN, L.Ac. is a graduate of Daoist Traditions College of Chinese Medical Arts in Asheville, North Carolina.
Her Masters level education at Daoist Traditions focused on Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM), which includes acupuncture, Chinese herbal medicine, dietary therapy, Tui Na (Chinese massage) and Qi Gong. A large portion of the four year program was also devoted to the study of Western medicine. Additionally, Classical Chinese Medicine through the Jade Purity tradition was taught by Jeffrey Yuen, 88th generation Daoist priest and nationally renowned practitioner and educator. Classical Chinese Medicine emphasizes the Spirit and the importance of this aspect of self on the path of healing. Mindy graduated in 2007 and has been practicing at White Pine Acupuncture, Inc. since 2008. She is nationally certified as a Diplomat of Acupuncture by the National Certification Commission for Acupuncture and Oriental Medicine (NCCAOM). She is licensed to practice by the North Carolina Acupuncture Licensing Board (NCALB).
In addition to being a practitioner of Oriental Medicine, Ms. Gates is also a registered nurse (RN). She graduated with a Bachelor of Science in nursing from the University of Mississippi School of Nursing in Jackson, MS in 1997. Her nursing career has and continues to focus on women’s health care, specializing in obstetrics. She is currently licensed by the North Carolina Board of Nursing (NCBON).
As a native of Mississippi, Ms. Gates was called to advocate for legislation to allow for the licensure of acupuncturists in her home state. As of the spring of 2009, the Mississippi licensure bill has passed both the House and the Senate and will soon be signed into law, allowing the people of Mississippi to choose Oriental Medicine as a modality of health care.
Since moving to Asheville in 1998, Mindy has developed a love for gardening and is excited to be learning more about cultivating Chinese herbs and complementary native species here in Western North Carolina where the mountains offer a diversity of ecosystems in which Chinese herbals thrive. She is in the process of developing organic medicinal herbal gardens on her land for the purpose of harvesting and creating medicine to include in the apothecary at White Pine Acupuncture, Inc.
Mindy is interested in bridging Oriental and Western medicine for a more integrative and holistic approach to health care, and is dedicated to helping people on their personal paths towards health.
